Bringing Firearms to New Zealand

Firearms & Licensing

Importing firearms and ammunition to New Zealand is easy with some early planning (a  minimum of 6 months is recommended). Your firearm must be on the approved firearms list for New Zealand and each hunter is permitted to  bring four cases of ammunition.

You can hire one of our firearms for $250 for the entire trip duration. We have a range of quality firearms and quality optics  available for hire. You do not require a permit if you’re hiring one of our  firearms. The preferred rifle calibers are our 7mm Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag. You will have  the opportunity for target practice to familiarize yourself with our rifle prior to your hunt.

Shot distances vary on target game species and hunters’ capabilities. These distances  typically range from 100 yards to 300 yards. Some shot distances can range out to 400 +  yards depending on the hunter. We strongly recommend practicing shooting out to these  distances in diverse terrain and weather conditions to build confidence for in the field.
